FAQ

General Info
NUDA spray tan vs. Booth Tan: Why does it matter?

A NUDA spray tan is a luxury, hand‑applied airbrush service that delivers a natural, even, and customized glow. Your technician tailors the shade, blends every contour, and uses clean, skin‑loving ingredients for a flawless finish.

A booth tan, on the other hand, is an automated spray with a one‑size‑fits‑all formula. It’s quick, but it can’t adjust to your undertone, body shape, or tricky areas — which often leads to uneven color and faster fading.

Will my spray tan turn orange?

When used as recommended, NUDA sunless tanning products are formulated to offer a natural-looking bronzed complexion. Properly preparing and caring for your tan will produce best results.

Is it safe for pregnant women?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) acts only on the top layer of the skin. NUDA’s formulas are non-toxic and there is no evidence that demonstrates the harmfulness of DHA. However, each pregnancy is different, and we recommend consulting your doctor if you have any questions prior to use.

What is DHA?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is the active ingredient in all sunless tanning products. It is a sugar molecule which is naturally derived from the beets or the sugar cane and the fermentation of glycerine. This ingredient reacts to the amino acids on the surface of the skin to simulate a tan. The intensity of the final tan will depend on the strength of DHA contained within the product.

Do spray tans protect my skin from UV rays?

NUDA sunless tanning products do not contain any UV-protective agents. Our solutions do not protect skin from being sunburned and your skin can still tan. We always recommend applying sunscreen prior to exposing your skin to the sun.

How long will my spray tan results last?

On average, spray tans result last up to 10 days. However, the longevity depends on several factors, which include lifestyle habits, daily activities, and skin type and aftercare products used. Sweating excessively while sleeping or spending time in jacuzzis or saunas, taking long baths or showers on a daily basis, participating in activities that may cause excessive sweating (ex: spinning), exfoliation, hair removal, or even a lack of skin hydration may cause the product to fade away faster. See 'After Session' and 'Maintaining Tan' sections for more information.

Are there any risks to spray tanning?

Although spray tanning is considered a safe way to get a natural-looking complexion, some people have reported allergic reactions to the DHA components. If you suspect that you may be allergic to DHA, ask your spray tan artist do a test on your stomach skin before performing a full application. Stomach skin is known to react quickly in the case of an allergy and is the ideal area to validate whether the skin will react to the product or not.

How long does it take for the tan to develop?

The regular solutions take 8 to 12 hours to develop before rinsing off.

The rapid solutions can be rinsed after 1 to 5 hours depending on the intensity desired. Shower 1 to 2 hours after the application to achieve a light tan, 3 to 4 hours to achieve a medium tan, 4 to 5 hours after to achieve a dark tan. The color will fully develop 24 hours after showering.

What is the difference between the classic and rapid rinse solutions?

The classic rinse solutions takes 8 to 12 hours to develop before rinsing off. These are perfect if you are looking to get a result right after the first shower.

The rapid rinse solutions are ideal if you are on-the-go and looking to shower quickly after your appointment, as the tan depth is controlled by you and when you will shower. Recommended development period is 1 to 5 hours. Shower 1 to 2 hours after the application to achieve a light tan, 3 to 4 hours to achieve a medium tan, 4 to 5 hours to achieve a dark tan. The color will fully develop in 24 hours after showering.

Can NUDA spray tan solutions stain clothing or sheets?

Although NUDA’s formulas have been formulated to dry quickly and to be transfer resistant, we recommend you wear loose fitting, dark clothing after the application. If you are to sleep with your tan, you should wear full-length clothing. The solution is water-soluble and can easily be removed from most fabrics.

Can NUDA spray tan solutions stain hair?

Clients with darker hair will not see any stains on your hair. However, clients with light blonde, gray or platinum hair may notice some discoloration from the cosmetic bronzers.

If needed, we will help you to apply a fine layer of barrier cream, shampoo or conditioner on the hair around your face for hair that cannot fit into the hair net to prevent any stain.

I'm tanning for a special event, when should I make my appointment?

We recommend tanning a day or two before a special event or occasion. Many people prefer to schedule their appointment the evening before and wait until the next morning to rinse off. This gives the spray tan time to develop with little risk of accidental smudging or transfer of product while you are sleeping. Also, please keep your entire pre-event beauty plan in mind when making your appointment. Facials, massages, and exfoliating manicures or pedicures are best done before tanning to prevent uneven wear of your tan.

At Least 24hrs Before Session
Shave, Wax, and Exfoliate*

Shave, wax and exfoliate the skin at least 24 HRS prior to the appointment. It's important to allow the amino acids to reconstruct as DHA needs amino acids to develop. Also, the pores need time to close before the application otherwise it may leave dark spots.

*Exfoliation

Exfoliation is the most important step to achieve an optimal result that will last up to 10 days. We suggest to use a good quality scrub with an exfoliating mitt that will allow the elimination of dead skin cells and impurities. Pay attention to rough areas like feet, ankles, elbows, armpits, knuckles, collarbones, etc.

If the exfoliation hasn't been done properly, the result could be uneven and fade quickly. NUDA products have been designed to fade gradually and evenly when the skin is properly prepared.

Moisturize

Moisturize the skin days prior to your session (not the day of the appointment).

Day of Session
Shower

Take a shower at least 3 hours before the appointment.

Do NOT use...

Do NOT use lotion, gel, wax, shaving cream or other oil-based products as they could leave residues on the skin and prevent the solution from developing correctly. Please take shower at least 3 hours before appointment to clean skin of any potential oil-based products.

Do NOT wear...

Do NOT wear makeup, cream, sunscreen, perfume or deodorant the day of the appointment.

What do I wear?

The application can be done with or without undergarments or bathing suit.

We recommend you to wear loose and dark colored clothing when leaving your appointment.

After Session
What to wear?

You will be safe to dress immediately after your spray tan. It is recommended that you wear dark, loose-fitting clothing to prevent rubbing, streaking, and uneven wear until after your first shower. Risk of staining goes away after your first shower.

Avoid...

Avoid activities that provoke sweating or any contact with liquid during the development period. If it's raining or snowing outside, wear long clothes that cover you.

Do NOT apply cream or makeup on the skin during the development period.

When do I shower?

Wait 8-12 hours (classic rinse) or 1 to 5 hours (rapid rinse) before showering, depending on the solution. If unsure, refer to your spray tan artist for recommended delay time.

Rinse the whole body and face thoroughly. Rinse until the water is clear. For the first shower, we recommend not using soap.

Maintaining Tan
What to use?
  • Hydrated skin is the secret of a long-lasting tan!

  • Moisturize the skin daily with an appropriate lotion. Use the NUDA Body Cream for best results.

  • Use gentle facial cleansers, no oil-based or exfoliating products.

What to avoid?
  • Excessive sweating, jacuzzies, or saunas, taking long hot baths or showers often can cause faster fading.

  • Do not wax areas where solution has been applied for the duration of the result. A delicate shaving may be done occasionally.

  • Avoid lotion, soap, and body wash containing mineral oils, petroleum, and alcohol. These ingredients can affect the result and cause a faster fading.

  • Do not exfoliate the skin for the duration of the result. When the tan starts to fade, exfoliate the skin again in order to remove the old tan residues.
